Gravimetric soil moisture
Gravimetric samples will provide a calibration to the volumetric soil moisture measured using POGO. In each field and in a spot where the soil has not been trampled or disturbed, two core samples will be taken for each sampling date from two specified sampling locations, using 5 cm aluminum rings. Once the ring is fully inserted into the soils, the POGO will be used to take 3 readings from the undisturbed soil surrounding the inserted ring. At the laboratory, the gravimetric moisture content will be determined for each individual sample.
